“10 things that non-vegans don’t want to hear, but must acknowledge are true:

1. Animal agriculture is the largest act of systematic violence in the history of the world. This is a fact, and is not debatable.

2. You do not need to eat meat or animal products to survive—vegans are living proof of this—and thus killing an animal for food is an act of unnecessary violence towards animals, no different, morally, from trophy hunting.

3. If you added up the deaths from all the genocides and oppressions in history, it still wouldn’t even come anywhere near close to the number of animals abused and killed worldwide for unnecessary food products in a single week (2 billion animals abused and killed per week—generously low estimate when other factors, e.g. bykill from over-fishing, are taken into account).

4. There are millions of vegans worldwide of all races, blood types, pregnancy statuses, financial situations, health conditions prior to going vegan, ages, etc. living perfectly healthily on a plant-based diet, free of animal products. As such, no one reading this has any excuses to not be vegan, or to worry about raising their child as a vegan, be it due to health concerns, their ethnicity, their age, their pregnancy, their income, or anything else.

5. All animals routinely suffer in every single industry that they are used in, be it for food, clothing or entertainment, and anyone purporting otherwise is either uninformed or disingenuous. The idea that there isn’t a single bit of animal suffering in every sandwich they eat, every millilitre of milk they drink, every thread of wool on their jumper or every patch of leather on their jacket is nonsensical and not an argument that can be taken seriously by anyone in the real world.

6. Humans are suffering terribly worldwide as a direct result of animal agriculture. African children starve while we feed African crops to livestock to fatten them up for burgers in the West; indigenous people lose their homelands through mass deforestation caused by animal ag; and rates of rape and violent crime rise in areas where slaughterhouses are set up (see joint study by universities of Michigan State and Windsor) as a direct result of slaughterhouse employment.

7. A vegan atheist causes less harm to God’s creatures and God’s planet than a religious person who is not vegan.

8. Many non-vegans like to comfort themselves by being thankful for the ‘sacrifice’ an animal made for their food, but the harsh truth is that an animal no more sacrifices themselves for someone any more than a child sacrifices themselves for a child murderer. Whether people like this analogy or not, they cannot argue that this is not true. Animals do not give up their lives for humans—their lives are taken from them, against their will.

9. Animal agriculture is the leading cause of environmental destruction and species extinction worldwide. It is a leading driver of greenhouse gas emissions, deforestation, climate change, soil erosion and habitat destruction and is responsible for excessive water and crop usage, as well as ocean deadzones (which may even give us fishless oceans this century, should people buy seafood at the same rate). With regards to species extinction, it doesn’t make sense for someone to condemn trophy hunters and poachers for killing endangered animals if they eat meat and animal products themselves.

10. There is not a single logical argument for anyone reading this to continue eating meat and animal products—only excuses.” ~ George Martin
